What you need to learn from the fashion world

Decoration is as much fun as fashion. Why not take cue from runways around the world to know some of the hottest decor trends of the season? Here we go..

1. Experiment with shapes and forms:

New silhouettes and fun forms have made way from the ramps to the collection of some of the biggest names in decor industry. The idea seems to have impressed every high end brand from B & B to the German giant Dedon. From furniture, décor items, vases to taps and fittings, fun forms are the way to go.

Follow this rule: Instead of the regular drapes, upholstery, furniture, paint patterns, go for a less seen style. Be selective while you buy new stuff. Even if you end up buying a common stuff, play your part by decorating it in a different style.

2. Keep it minimal:

Now this is one fashion rule you gotta adhere too. Do not overdo with decor items or accessories. If the color on walls is a bit too loud, go easy on accessories. If you want to focus on accessories, make sure they do not clash with the basic color scheme of the interiors. The let’s-decorate-every-corner trend is long gone, and for good.

Follow this rule: Create one focus point in a room. If you have a fabulous collection of paintings, underplay a few other things to help highlight them. Stick to this simple rule, in whatever you do.

3. Keep it comfy:

As with fashion, decoration too is laying emphasis on comfort. Ample ventilation, sufficient vacant space, a color palate that is easy on eyes, functionality of furniture, easy to clean décor items are the new rules to stick by. Do not make an effort to make your room look decorated; the understated style is the coolest décor trend. Thankfully, it is here to stay.

Follow this rule:  De-clutter your abode. The placing of furniture or design elements should not be a hindrance while walking around. And yes, the fabric selection should be according to the season.

4. Don’t go too matchy-matchy:

Thankfully, over-matching is passé now. Experiment is the key-word of the season. Take care of the basic colour scheme but go bold at places. A collection of red vases may look fab in a room which has black and white colour scheme. Play with colours, just take care that you do not end up introducing a little bit of every colour. But do not hesitate in breaking the basic colour-matching code. It’s just so fashionable!

Follow this rule: Show pieces in contrast color are the safest bet.  If you can dare to experiment, create patterns on wall and choose strikingly different colours. The trick is, to strike the right balance.
